Navigating collaborative open innovation projects: Staging negotiations of actors' concerns

Open innovation has attracted significant attention as companies respond to increasing innovative complexities by opening their organizational boundaries interact with stakeholders along the funnel. However, knowledge from customers and users is not always easily translated into solutions that can be commercialized. Micro-level challenges of open projects might impeding commercialization remain under-explored in literature. To address this research gap, we use a collaborative staging approach inspired actor-network theory focus on micro-level negotiations actors' concerns at project level. Analysing data collected via ethnographic participant observation longitudinal qualitative case study, investigate how managers designers navigated value creation capture when conceptualizing an app for hospitalized stroke patients. Our findings reveal action-oriented efforts selective enactment business models depending whether or creation. Furthermore, point repertoire moves facilitate productive network alignment opportunities co-evolve conceptualize offers processes.
